Until First Light

Ron D. Lux

The year is 1997. One housing estate. One rooftop. And a first love that has never been deadlier.

One night changed everything. Strange sounds draw eighteen-year-old Martin out of the grey reality of the estate and up onto the roof of a tower block - a place that becomes his escape into a dangerously fascinating world. It is there, beneath the cold stars, that he meets Luna. A mysterious girl who seems to belong to the night itself, and whom no one in the neighbourhood has ever heard of. When unexplained attacks begin to multiply across the town, Martin faces a terrifying choice: can he trust someone he loves… even when he has no idea what secrets she is hiding? And what if the price of the truth is more than he can bear? A mysterious story filled with 1990s nostalgia, chilling suspense, and dark romance that will pull you in.

Excerpt from the Book

She was standing there. At the very edge of the roof, like a figure torn from a forgotten dream. Her black hair rippled in the wind, and the dark coat rustled around her slender figure as if it had been woven from shadows. She gazed at the constellation of city lights below her, at that pulsing, distant life.

“Luna?” he called softly, and his own voice sounded strange to him.

She turned. Her eyes caught his gaze, and a smile spread across her face — one that, for a moment, took Martin’s breath away. The air around her smelled of ozone and cold, like the aftermath of a storm.

The darkest stories begin in places we know.

I write stories about places we know well: housing estates, night streets, and the silence between apartment blocks. About moments when ordinary reality cracks for a second and you realize the world can be darker—and strangely more magical—than you ever thought.
